The climate is sharply continental. That means that winters here are very severe, cold and snowy. Summer is rather hot and dry. Temperatures in summer range from 20 to 22°C, ; in winter - (18 - 20°C) , but sometimes they may go up to -35°C in winter and 35°C in summer . The difference between the highest and the lowest temperature is 88°C. Most of the time the weather is sunny. The spell of sunny weather is 2880 hours an year.

Novosibirsk is one of the biggest cities in Russia and considered the third largest city after Moscow and St.Petersburg and the biggest one behind the Ural. It's situated right in the middle of Russia. The City lies on both banks of the Ob river.The day when construction of the new bridge across the Ob river was started is considered to be the day when Novosibirsk was founded.
In 1993 Novosibirsk celebrated it's 100th anniversary and it's growing rate is so high,that we can call the city the Russian Chicago.

Administratively Novosibirsk is segmented into 10 administration districts. Leninsky and Kirovsky districts are situated on the left bank of the Ob river while Zaeltsovsky, Zheleznodorozhny, Dzerzhinsky, Tsentralny, Oktyabrsky, Kalininsky, Pervomaysky and Sovietsky are on the right one.

The City Soviet of People’s Deputies is the main legislative body. The executive power is exercised by the Mayor and the prefects of the districts. The municipal authorities are elected by the citizens of Novosibirsk. Elections are held once in four years.

The city was considered to be the business capital of Siberia, so the largest Siberian banks and the Siberian Stock and Commodity Exchanges are situated there. The territory of Novosibirsk extended more and more, and the population of the town was rising. In the early 60-s the population of Novosibirsk reached one million. In the subsequent years new architectural sites were created in the town - scientist centers of Academy of Medicine and Academy of Agriculture.

The construction of subway was started in Novosibirsk in 1979. The first line was opened in 1985. So the 90-s years have started, and that was a turning point for the whole country. But in spite of economical crisis, Novosibirsk goes on its developing. Commercial banks, markets, exchanges and private companies have appeared again in the town. Now the future of Novosibirsk is closely bound up with a new social economical system of all the country.

Akademgorod campus, Novosibirsk planned streets, famous University, large railway station, and village-like suburbs, helpful people and reasonable prices – all in one city. In the 1957 Siberian Branch of Academy of Science was opened in the city. In fact, they built special town "Akademgorodok" (Academy town) in the pine forest on the shore of the Ob Sea (man-made huge reservoir on the Ob-river). Nowadays it is a town with a 100.000 inhabitants, great ecology and the famous Novosibirsk University. On weekends, students usually go out to the Ob Sea for a swim and nice time with friends.
